Notes on Monstera

The Monstera deliciosa is a beautiful tropical plant and surprisingly simple to care for. It is an excellent choice for an indoor plant that is spectacular. The plant is native in some tropical regions where it vines around trees. My experience has been to keep it simple with the Monstera deliciosa. This does not include the variegated varieties.

The plant does not like to be transplanted but once the initial adjustment period it does quite well. While the plant does like humidity, it does need to dry out a bit too. Overwatering is a problem with these plants, so best to go easy on the water and space the watering out.

The light should be indirect light, as if under the forest canopy. The Monstera does not do well with direct sunlight nor should it be in a very dark area. Since the plant grows in the forest the plant does well in tropical temperatures and does not tolerate either extreme. The temperature inside most homes is appropriate.

The soil that I use is potting soil with some orchid or bromeliad bark, it is mostly about making sure the soil drains well. Below are some links with more in-depth information regarding these lovely plants.
